What should I expect at my first appointment? The first appointment is your initial evaluation. The first half will be spent taking a thorough history of your injury, your symptoms and your medical history. The second half will be spent conducting a series of assessments including special tests and measures in order to make a diagnosis. You should wear loose clothing so your therapist can easily access your area of pain Your physical therapist will summarize these findings, discuss your diagnosis, prognosis, expectations and healing timelines. Education is paramount to successful physical therapy Your physical therapist will develop a personalized plan of care to decrease your pain and achieve your goals You can expect to be given one or two exercises or stretches to do on your own at home to start. There will be more time for exercises and manual (hands on) therapy in follow up appointments once the initial evaluation is completed For most injuries, rehab lasts a minimum of 6 weeks so don’t be surprised when your PT asks you to book follow up appointments. The frequency and duration of these appointments will be discussed with you New patients get a t-shirt!

What should I wear to my first appointment?Comfortable work out clothing or loose-fitting clothes are best. Clothing that allows you to expose the skin in the area being treated is preferred, but not required. During the evaluation and follow up visits, the therapist will often need to access your skin, muscles, and joints around the area that you are attending physical therapy for to determine what is problem is and treat it effectively.
