Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy is the skilled application of hands-on techniques by our skilled clinicians to manipulate soft tissue, joints, and nerves. Manual therapy is one tool our therapists can use to decrease pain and swelling, improve range of motion, and mobilize joints. By using manual techniques to improve tissue mobility and decrease pain, patients are able to more effectively perform exercises. Manual therapy is just one aspect of physical therapy treatment, but can be useful for many different diagnoses.
Manual therapy is typically used in the beginning of your rehab journey as it helps relieve acute pain and regain lost motion. As the body begins to heal, the focus will shift to active therapy including therapeutic exercise, strengthening, and stretching. There are various types of manual therapy that can be used including soft tissue massage, joint mobilization, passive range of motion, and manual traction. By using these techniques, we can assist the body in regaining regular motion and mobility.
